FANMETAL levert het ASTM B550 zirkoniumstaafmateriaal Zr 702, 704, 705 enz. Dat werd gebruikt in chemische apparatuur, sputterend doelwit in PVD-coating. Zirkonium heeft een zeer lage thermische neutronenabsorptiedoorsnede, hoge hardheid, ductiliteit en corrosieweerstand. Het belangrijkste gebruik van zirkoniumlegeringen ligt op het gebied van nucleaire technologie, zoals splijtstofstaven in kernreactoren.
